THE ALBUM OF THE DAYPAUL SIMON...There Goes Rhymin' Simon (1973)There Goes Rhymin' Simon, the third solo album from Paul Simon, was released 40 years ago today in 1973. It reached number 2 on the U.S. Billboard album charts. I highly recommend this record, giving it a 4 out of 5 stars. First, and foremost, perhaps my favorite Simon solo tune is on this album, "Something So Right." I have always loved this song, the melody and the acoustic guitar playing are so brilliant. Paul Simon is an outstanding guitarist, something you don't normally hear. Two big hit singles come from this set, "Kodachrome" and "Loves Me Like A Rock," both excellent songs. Other highlights include "American Tune" and "Take Me To The Mardi Gras." It had been a very long time since I had heard this album (my uncle would play it for me when I was a teenager) so it was very refreshing to hear it today.
