Michael jackson trial

Michael jackson trial, Millions, and possibly billions, of dollars are at stake in a civil trial starting Monday over allegations from Michael Jackson's mother that the company promoting his comeback concerts failed to properly investigate the doctor convicted in his death.Jurors will listen to remarks from attorneys who hope to frame the issues before testimony begins in the months-long trial.Lawyers for concert giant AEG Live contend the company did nothing wrong and could not have foreseen the circumstances that led to Jackson's death in June 2009 at age 50.The case will focus on the last few months of Jackson's life and his overall health and financial history. Jurors will also hear evidence throughout the case about Conrad Murray, the former cardiologist convicted in 2011 of involuntary manslaughter after giving Jackson doses of the powerful anesthetic propofol as a sleep aid.Any award in the case will be determined by a jury of six men and six women who have agreed to hear the case, which may last up to 90 days.Lawyers for Katherine Jackson and the singer's three children have said AEG failed to spot red flags about Murray's finances, and created a conflict of interest for him between a major payday and maintaining the superstar's health.Murray agreed to serve as Jackson's doctor for the planned series of "This Is It" comeback shows in London for $150,000 per month, but Jackson died before the superstar and AEG officials signed the agreement.AEG contends it did not hire Murray, who had previously treated the superstar and was requested by Jackson to serve as his physician.Murray remains jailed and is appealing his conviction. The trial will address issues about Jackson's health and finances that were not factors in Murray's criminal trial, and may also feature testimony from the singer's two oldest children. Stars such as Diana Ross, Spike Lee and Quincy Jones are also listed as potential witnesses, and several top AEG executives are expected to testify.Copyright 2013 Associated Press. Frank Ski Replacing Michael Baisden On The Radio In Washington D.C!!!! -- Details Inside

Frank Ski Replacing Michael Baisden On The Radio In Washington D.C!!!! -- Nationally-syndicated radio show host Michael Baisden being locked out of the Cumulus radio offices was a brutal and unceremonious dismissal if there ever was one. But is someone waiting in the wings who also recently stepped away from his radio rule due to negotiation squabbles?According to recent reports, yes. Baisden’s ouster leaves an opening for radio connoisseur Frank Ski, who ruled over the Atlanta airwaves in the morning for over 14 years before leaving V-103 in December, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.Frank Ski left radio, albeit temporarily, because CBS couldn’t or wouldn’t give him the syndication he so much desired. He is now shopping a syndicated show and refused to comment on his near or distant future plans.Radio One Atlanta boss Davies assured all that a contingency plan is in place, but he also declined to divulge any clues. The timing of Baisden’s departure is indeed curious. Just last year, Baisden led the R&B station Majic to the No. 2 place in its time slot behind V-103 and gave them the highest share (7.7) they’ve ever had. The year before, the share was 5.4, so that is a significant increase. He is credited with two monumental milestones in recent years: galvanizing the nation behind the Jena 6 rally in Louisiana and for the work he did to help then-Sen.Barack Obama get elected president, for which Baisden received a personal phone call of thanks from the current commander-in chief. Baisden who left radio for similar reasons as Frank Ski.

You're the GM of series....my second round results

Continuing the "You're the GM..." theme, I'm going to do a quick write up of what I'd do in the second round (this is based on the Draft Re-Do)33. New England Patriots (acquired by trading down with Jacksonville) - CB Jamar Taylor (first round pick - none)New England needs corners and Jamar Taylor is watching his stock skyrocket right now.  He one of the most complete corners in the draft and should be a day one starter.34. San Francisco 49ers - DE Margus Hunt (first round pick - NT John Jenkins)At 6'8", Hunt is not only a huge obstacle for quarterbacks to throw over, but for kickers to avoid as well.  In college, he earned his nickname, "The Eastern Block" by blocking a total of 17 kicks.  He's one of the top athletes in the draft who had one of the best Combines in recent memory and will upgrade the defensive end position immediately.  Drafting him along with my first round choice of Jenkins gives the Niners a young core of players on the defensive line.35. Miami Dolphins (acquired by trading up with Philadelphia) - OT Menelik Watson (first round pick - DE Bjoern Werner)Miami still needs to fill the hole left by Jake long.  They use some of the fire power they have in this draft (their first of two second round picks and a third) to move up and secure Watson who is climbing boards,  I wouldn't be surprised at all if he goes in the first round, but in this mock he's here and the Dolphins make a big move to land him before the tackle-starved Lions and Cardinals.36. Detroit Lions - OT Terron Armstead (first round pick - CB Dee Milliner)The Lions would have to choose between Cornellius Carradine and an offensive tackle.  The top two left are Armstead and Justin Pugh and I took Armstead because of his upside.  He's probably my favorite small-school player in this draft and one of my favorites all-around.  His huge upside and unbelievable toughness make him my clear choice for the Lions.37. Cincinnati Bengals - DE Cornellius Carradine (first round pick - S Kenny Vaccaro)Defensive end Michael Johnson is currently franchised by the Bengals and by selecting Carradine, they have his replacement in 2014.  Carradine is coming off a major knee injury and is not expected to be ready for week one, but with Johnson locked up for one year, the Bengals can afford to let this first round talent heal up before leaning on him.The rest of the second round, after the jump...Read more »Fantasy Football Trenches - Where The Game Is Won

Of predictions, bias and opinions

I know, I know, I am not a law professor. But the new essay about liberal law professors and the anti-mandate argument in the Obamacare cases, cited here, has me wondering whether one can really say one is biased because one predicts something and the opposite occurs. Maybe yes, maybe no. It depends upon the circumstances and what is being said, and what is being predicted, as Andrew Koppelman, a liberal minded law prof from Northwestern University law school, wrote in the first linked post. While I haven't read David Hyman's essay castigating liberal law professors and their supposed herd mentality, I would like to take myself as an analogy to a law professor. I wrote a post early in the litigation against Obamacare ripping into Ilya Solmin's anti-insurance mandate arguments, but then agreed with him that despite my finding his anti-mandate arguments to be ridiculous, I believed the Obamacare case was going to be a 5-4 decision at the Supreme Court level. Initially, I thought Justice Kennedy was going to reject the anti-mandate arguments and join with the not-conservatives (Kagan, Ginsburg, Breyer and Sotomayor). Then, right after oral arguments on the Obamacare case in March 2012, I began to change my mind about the state of mind of Justice Kennedy. I began to openly wonder if the mandate would be struck down as Justice Kennedy joined the Four Horsemen of the Conservative Apocalypse. See here. I believed then the anti-mandate arguments were silly, and I believe that now (I don't like the mandate policy from a policy making standpoint, as I'd rather see Medicare for All. I do, however, believe it is eminently constitutional.). However, politically, I was always ready to concede we live in silly times and that the US Supreme Court consists of justices who are part of the silliness--and therefore at least four of the Supreme Court justices would take seriously the anti-mandate arguments. It turned out to be five...That's a bias I suppose. But I stand by my opinion on the lack of merits of the anti-mandate arguments. And I look pretty good in my predictions, though not perfect by any means. For example, most people, whether law professors or political commentators, did not see the Chief Justice Roberts "pro-tax argument to uphold Obamacare" coming down the legal pike...Notwithstanding the above, if some liberal law professor predicted all nine Justices would vote to uphold the insurance mandate as constitutional, I'd say that person gets the Dick Morris Award.

Madden 25 Cover Vote Round 2 Picks (New School)

(1) Colin Kaepernick over (8) A.J. Green: As a number one seed, Kaepernick will have to watch out for the upset against A.J. Green. The San Francisco quarterback led his team to a Super Bowl, but the road to the cover may be a bit more difficult.(4) Arian Foster over (5) Julio Jones: Arian Foster's impressive statistics in 2012 were overshadowed by Adrian Peterson and his quest for 2,000 rushing yards. Foster won 88% of the voting in the first round, and though Jones will likely put up a fight, Foster will be one step closer towards the Madden 25 cover.(3) Russell Wilson over (6) Von Miller: While Von Miller wheezed into the second round, Russell Wilson easily beat Justin Blackmon in the first. Wilson did not win Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2012, but his Seahawks have one of the most reliable fan bases in the league. Wilson is guaranteed to beat Miller.(2) Andrew Luck over (10) Clay Mathews: Green Bay Packers fans were well represented in the voting when Mathews upset Trent Richardson in the first round. His next opponent, Andrew Luck, revived a struggling Indianapolis franchise last season, and his accomplishments did not go unnoticed. (1) Robert Griffin III over (8) Doug Martin: Reining Rookie of the Year Robert Griffin III will face a fellow rookie player in Doug Martin. Doug Martin made a legitimate case for ROTY, but it was RGIII who won the prize in the end. RGIII will end up winning this match up, too.(5) Ray Rice over (4) Dez Bryant: Flacco was credited with the majority of Baltimore's post season success, but Ray Rice guided this team into the playoffs. His opponent, Dez Bryant, did not become hot until the final few weeks of the regular season. Rice's tremendous performance in the first round of voting will continue into the second.(3) Rob Gronkowski over (11) Darrelle Revis: Both competitors missed a significant amount of games in 2012 due to injury, but somehow, they find themselves in a second round match up. Gronkowski appears to be a fan favorite, and will likely beat Revis in a lopsided victory.(2) Adrian Peterson over (10) LeSean McCoy: Out of all the players competing in the 'New School' bracket, reigning MVP Adrian Peterson is the favorite to come out as champion. McCoy's 2012 campaign was not strong enough to dethrone Peterson's monster season.

Katt Williams sentenced: Community Service for Sacramento chase

Katt Williams sentenced - Popular Comedian Katt Williams avoided jail Thursday when he was sentenced to 90 days of community service after pleading no contest to misdemeanor reckless evasion of an officer in Sacramento. The original sentence was 180 days in county jail, according to the Sacramento Bee, but the judge converted it to the community service stretch with the other 90 days stayed if he does the work and stays out of trouble. The charge was originally a felony vehicle code violation. The chase that sparked the charge occurred last November, during a rough patch for the comic as he played dates on the West Coast and bumped up against the law repeatedly along the way. Driving a three-wheeled Can-Am Spyder motorcycle, Williams led police on a chase through sidewalks and walkways in downtown Sacramento after they approached him on a disturbing-the-peace complaint, Fox40 News reported at the time. A ways into the chase, he reportedly took off his helmet and told the cops, "I'm not going to stop"; the chase was called off after police decided it was too dangerous to continue. Williams, whose real name is Micah Williams, failed to appear several times in court related to the charge. He told reporters last month that the downtown chase was a "misunderstanding," the Bee said, and called skipping out on Superior Court a mistake. In December, Katt declared he was retiring from stand-up. His website currently lists no future tour dates.

Xabi Alonso: "The fans will be crucial"

Real Madrid will be looking to repeat a magical night at the Santiago Bernabeu that will take them to the final at Wembley. Xabi Alonso is clear: "We can do it in the second match at home, even though we are not happy with this match right now. The fans' support will be crucial in the second leg, but we have to be the ones to make the first move so that they can get behind us. We have six days to wait and we can turn this result around." The Whites’ midfielder also spoke about what happened in the match in Dortmund: "There are details that are critical at this point. Borussia competed better than us and we have to learn for the next match because we have little margin for error".

Double K’s Top 5 NBA Playoff Matchups: #2 (7) Los Angeles Lakers vs. (2) San Antonio Spurs…

#2 Round 1 – (7) Los Angeles Lakers vs. (2) San Antonio Spurs…(16)(7) Los Angeles Lakers (2013 Reg. Season: 102ppg, 45rpg, 22apg, 46% FG, 36% 3PT): The Lakers are a proud but wounded franchise. They managed after a horrible start to reach the 7 seed in the playoffs. But they pressed their aging superstar Kobe Bryant to plat 40+ minutes a game and he ended up blowing out his ACL and being finished for the season. With only one game left the Lakers got in without Kobe but can they win without him is the question we must all asked ourselves…(4)(2) San Antonio Spurs (2013 Reg. Season: 103ppg, 41rpg, 25apg, 48% FG, 38% 3PT): The Spurs franchise is a long way away from catching the Lakers in total number of titles won. But something that they can do is knock the Lakers out of the playoff race and put themselves one step closer to adding another one to the 4 they already have.  But to do that they first must beat a very talented Lakers team lead by Dwight Howard…Synopsis: (Spurs won season series 2-1) Spurs 4, Lakers 3:  I think the Lakers will give it a good go and even push the Spurs to seven games but I don’t think they can overcome the Spurs in San Antonio. The Lakers will win 2 home games and maybe one in San Antonio but ultimately the Spurs will be too much for the Kobe-less Lakers and they will go home with a pat on the back and a hard good try….First Game: 4/21/13 at SpursIf you want to listen to the old podcast go to the address below or listen on itunes…http://www.npccomics.com/westcoastbias/If you want to listen to the West Coast Bias show on the 4ACES network…http://www.blogtalkradio.com/fouracespresents
